The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed One Billion, Three Hundred and Twenty-Six Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦1,326,550,000) to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The disbursement, which was made on January 19, 2026, is to cover 6,308 eligible UNILAG students who met all requirements under the NELFUND student loan programme.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, beneficiary lists were generated through verified institutional data submitted during the application and validation process, in line with standard procedure.

NELFUND reiterated that once funds are disbursed to an institution, beneficiary students should be able to register and access classes without delay.

Mrs. Oluwatuyi noted that the Fund consistently engages relevant officials of tertiary institutions to ensure proper reconciliation of beneficiary lists, timely application of funds to eligible students’ accounts, and clear communication to prevent misinformation and avoidable distress.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to transparency and student welfare.

“NELFUND remains fully committed to ensuring that approved student loan funds are disbursed promptly and applied appropriately. We are working closely with all partner institutions to resolve any administrative gaps and to ensure that no eligible student is disadvantaged,” he said.

The Fund urged students and stakeholders to rely on official communications from NELFUND and their respective institutions, assuring the public that all necessary steps are being taken to resolve any outstanding issues swiftly.

For further clarification, students are advised to contact their institution’s bursary or student affairs office, while NELFUND continues engagement with UNILAG to conclude the reconciliation process.
