The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has begun the review of the curriculum used across Colleges of Education nationwide, as part of its five-year review cycle.

Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Paulinus Chijioke Okwelle, disclosed this during an interaction with journalists in Abuja. He explained that the updated curriculum will incorporate new advancements, emerging trends, and modern teaching approaches.

“We are reviewing our curriculum. We have entered another five-year cycle. The last one was in 2020, so we are now reviewing,” he said.

Prof. Okwelle also revealed that the Commission has intensified the training of lecturers in entrepreneurial skills to help embed innovation and self-reliance into teaching across all subject areas.

“We are building our lecturers. We believe that for every course, you can become an entrepreneur—even as an English teacher,” he said. “We are training our lecturers so they can imbibe entrepreneurship in their teaching, preparing students to make a living from their discipline even outside government employment.”

The NCCE boss added that upgraded technology is being deployed across Colleges of Education in partnership with development organizations to strengthen teaching and learning nationwide.

“We have entered into partnership with many development partners where we have upgraded technology as a means of delivery. Companies like Huawei are running academies where some of our students and lecturers are participating,” he said.

He noted that in collaboration with UNESCO, the Commission has been upskilling lecturers on the use of technology for lesson delivery, with modern tools now being deployed in beneficiary institutions to enhance classroom effectiveness.

Prof. Okwelle, a Professor of Industrial Technology Education, also acknowledged the critical support of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), which has provided essential financial backing for the rollout of new technologies and instructional upgrades across Colleges of Education.
