Major complaints usually received from  telecommunications consumers by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC is that of regular data depletion.
This complaints became a source of burden to the apex telecommunications regulator that however, carried out its research  to come out with seven (7) Common Causes of Internet Data Depletion as stated below.
1. DOWNLOAD AND UPLOAD OF MEDIA FILES.Download and upload of pictures, document, videos and other forms of electronic media contribute greatly to data depletion, especially on mobile devices. The lager the file, the more the data consumption. 
2. INTERNET BROWSINGWebsite do not have any equal effect on your data consumption: the more pictures, video or graphics on the website visited, the more data that is used.
3. INSTANT MESSAGINGYour WhatsApp, Facebook messenger, Snapchat, and other instant messaging apps deplete your Internet data to the degree to which you utilize them.
4. STREAMINGThis is one of the most causes of data depletion. Streaming video and audio content on YouTube, Hulu, Netflix and other channels can quickly consume your data within a very short period of time.
5. ONLINE GAMINGGames use a lot more data than most people imagine, due to the intense graphics and algorithms that power them.
6. SOCIAL MEDIA APPS Social media applications such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram are constantly engaged in upload and download of information from the internet in order to stay updated in real time this constitute a huge opportunity for data depletion.
7. VIDEO CONFERENCINGVideos are usually a heavy media format to transmit, and so online conferencing and internet calls often consume huge data when a video  stream is being used. Application like zoom, Skype, WhatsApp video etc are some commonly used video conferencing tools.
