LRCN Inducts 330 Members As FG Charges Council On Role To Mitigate Effect Of Covid19.

The federal government has restated faith on the impact librarianship can make in information dissemination towards slowing down the effect of coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria. This is as the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) inducted 330 professionals, bringing to 6796 certified librarians in Nigeria. Declaring the 7th mandatory conference of certified Librarians in Nigeria and 11th batch induction ceremony open on Abuja, minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu urged the council to continue to lead the way in offering the nation’s information professionals, a forum for enhancing their competencies for containing emergencies and other purposes. Represented by a director in the ministry, Adamu said the pandemic has evoked the salient roles of public and private libraries as social agents for development especially in the area of research. Presenting the key note address, former Registrar and chief executive of the council, Mallam Habib Jato harp on the application of information and communication technology to provision of library services towards sustainable development. The theme of the one day conference is ” Transforming Libraries and Librarianship: Gateway for sustainable development.
