The Theater Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General Warrah Bello Idris, has declared that the Nigerian military is making significant gains against the “Lakurawa” terrorist group and other bandit elements, dismissing claims that insurgents hold control over any local government area in the region.
​Addressing journalists during a strategic field visit by the Defense Media Operations team, Major General Idris emphasized that the military’s success is fueled by a robust intelligence network and cross-border cooperation with neighbouring Niger and Benin Republics.
​The Commander detailed a recent tactical success in the Kamba general area, where troops intercepted a Lakurawa movement.
​”Last month alone, information was received of their movement… We checkmated them at the Kamba general area. We killed a lot of them, collected their weapons and their bags,” Idris stated.
​He noted that Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) regarding Research and Development (R&D) with neighbouring countries are being utilized to “checkmate the movement” of terrorists across the Maghreb region.
