The Labour Party has appointed former Finance Minister, Senator Nenadi Usman, as its interim National Chairman.

Her appointment, alongside that of other members of the interim National Working Committee, was ratified during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

This move is part of ongoing efforts to reconstitute the party’s leadership structure ahead of its forthcoming National Convention.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti who emphasized the need for unity within the party urged the two factional leaders Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa as well as other aggrieved members, to issue a formal apology as a prerequisite for their reintegration into the party.

Also addressing party members, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, encouraged members to remain resolute despite current challenges expressing optimism that the party would emerge stronger and better positioned to champion the interests of the common man.

The newly formed interim National Working Committee will manage the party’s affairs until a new National Executive Committee is elected at the convention.

Other key resolutions from the NEC meeting include the approval of a timetable for the conduct of congresses at all levels of the party structure.
