Kogi State Sets 2026 Start Date For Civil Works At Zariagi International Airport

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has announced that civil works at the proposed Zariagi International Airport will commence in 2026.

The governor disclosed this during the 2025 AKK Business Development Roadshow and the strategic launch of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline held at the Government House, Lokoja.

Ododo explained that the airport’s design phase which took the state government eight months to complete is now undergoing review by relevant stakeholders. He emphasized the state’s willingness to partner with both local and international investors, noting that several prospective partners have already expressed interest in supporting the infrastructure development phase of the project.

Reaffirming Kogi’s strategic position as a bridge between Northern and Southern Nigeria, the governor pledged to uphold a culture of continuity and responsible governance. He assured that no project will be abandoned under his administration, adding that he is committed to consolidating on the gains of previous governments and ensuring that all ongoing projects are completed as scheduled.

The proposal to upgrade the Zariagi Airstrip into a full-fledged international airport was first presented to the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development by the Kogi State Government in 2024.
