The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria confirmed on Friday that the country remains engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States, to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
The statement, signed by Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, follows recent precision airstrikes targeting terrorist locations in Nigeria’s North West region.
The Ministry characterized the ongoing collaboration as being in line with “established international practice and bilateral understandings.”
According to the official statement, the partnership involves
Intelligence Exchange of actionable data to identify insurgent movements strategic coordination to disrupt terrorist financing and logistics as well as sovereignty support which remains consistent with international law and mutual respect for national sovereignty.
The Federal Government emphasized that all counter-terrorism operations are guided by the “primacy of protecting civilian lives” and the safeguarding of national unity.
The Ministry addressed the nature of the threat directly, stating that terrorist violence whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities is considered an affront to Nigerian values and global security.
This follows recent international rhetoric regarding the religious motivations behind extremist attacks in the region.
While acknowledging the role of international support, the statement noted that a primary goal of these diplomatic and security channels is to strengthen Nigeria’s own internal security institutions and intelligence capabilities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated it will continue to engage with relevant partners and vowed to keep the public informed through official channels as operations progress.
