Insurgent Leaders Fleeing Under Pressure – OPFY Theatre Commander
The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General Warrah Bello Idris, has dismissed claims that insurgent leaders in the Northwest hold control over specific territories.
Speaking at a briefing on the progress of military operations in the region, Major General Idris characterized the reports as propaganda designed to project a false sense of authority by the terrorists including Bello. Turji.
He described the insurgent groups not as a structured governing force, but as “unstable bands” currently in a state of “confusion and panic” due to sustained military pressure.
The Commander issued a direct challenge to the insurgent leadership to provide evidence of their alleged administrative control.
”I dare the Turji to come out and present a single local government that he is controlling,” Idris said. “What we have here are a band of terrorists that move around wantonly kill innocent civilians and flee before our arrival.”
The General further noted that the recent increase in movement among these groups is a defensive reaction to intensified military offensives across the Northwest theatre. According to the military, the insurgents are being displaced from their enclaves and are resorting to hit-and-run attacks on soft targets to mask their declining operational capacity.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA is a multi-service Joint Task Force established to coordinate military pressure against banditry and terrorism across Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and parts of Katsina and Kaduna states.
Major General Idris reaffirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining the current operational tempo until the region is fully secured.
