There is no doubt that Nigeria is faced with security challenges. As part of measures adopted to consolidate efforts aimed at curtailing the situation, the Federal Government last year approved the sum of 13.3billion naira for the take off of the community policing initiative across the country. This is in view of reports on policing by the united Nations indicating 350,000 personnel strength of the Nigeria police force against a population of over 200 million. As a way out of this challenge, the Federal Government policing initiative was targeted at strengthening the efforts of the police and other sister agencies with involvement of citizens. Speaking at the annual conference of the people’s security monitor held in Abuja, the commissioner of police, Federal Capital Territory, Bala Ciroma represented by Dr Lanre Adebayo suggested ways the concept can be phased for optimal solution to the nations security challenges. Earlier, the Executive Director, People’s Security Monitor, Isiaka Mustapha in his opening remarks called for more collaborations that would involve the civilian population in the nations Security architecture. Highlights of the ceremony with the theme “Security is our Collective Responsibility” is presentation of awards to deserving serving security personnels.
