INEC To Resume Voter Registration, August 18

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide, beginning August 18,2025, with the launch of online pre-registration.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Sam Olumekun INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, said that in person registration will commence a week later on August 26, 2025 and both processes will run concurrently until August 30,2026.

The CVR exercise will be conducted at 811 designated centres cross the country, including the 774 Local Government Areas and 37 State and FCT offices. Registration will take place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm ,Monday to Friday , excluding public holidays.

To ease access, INEC is introducing an online CVR Live Locator to help citizens find nearby registration centres. The locator will go live on August 17,2025 and can be accessed via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.

In addition, a 38 page document listing the addresses of all 811 in-person registration centres has been uploaded to INEC’s website and other official online platforms. The Commission has also provided dedicated help desk phone numbers for each state to assist citizens needing clarification.

Olumekun noted that the procedures for online and in person registration remain the same as in 2022. Further details, including instructional videos, will be released by the Commission next week.

Meanwhile, INEC has received eight new letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number to 151. The Commission has published the details including names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leadership of the associations on its official platforms.

With a dedicated portal for party registration already established, INEC has begun shortlisting associations that meet preliminary requirements to proceed to the next application stage. Further updates will be provided after the 16 scheduled bye -elections in 12 States set for Saturday,August 16,2025.
