INEC Seeks Adequate Security Deployment For Upcoming Elections, CVR.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on security agencies to ensure robust and proactive measures are in place to safeguard personnel, materials, and all stakeholders involved in the conduct of upcoming elections.
This is as the Commission is set to commence the Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), conduct bye-elections, and oversee the Anambra Governorship election, all scheduled for 2025.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who made this known during the second regular meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) held in Abuja, emphasized the need for adequate deployment of security personnel to guarantee a safe and secure electoral environment, especially given the current security challenges across the country.
In his remarks, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu represented by the Director of Internal Security, Hassan Abdullahi pledged continued collaboration among security agencies to address potential threats before, during, and after the elections.
Other key takeaways from the meeting, which later transitioned into a closed-door session, include the need for the security agencies to use the forthcoming Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise scheduled for August 2025 to refine their strategies for securing the upcoming electoral processes.
End.
