INEC, NBS Forge New Partnership To Enhance Data Use, Public Infrastructure.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has reiterated the Commission’s commitment to strategic collaboration with national institutions, highlighting the importance of data synergy and infrastructure development for national development.
Prof. Yakubu made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the Statistician-General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, alongside senior officials of the NBS, to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja .
Prof Yakubu who reaffirmed INECs commitment to partner with national agencies within the confines of the law while maintaining its independence, welcomed the collaboration with
NBS, especially the interest in leveraging the commissions widespread network of locations across the country for the benefit of citizens beyond elections.
Prof. Yakubu further drew attention to the condition of public buildings that serve as INEC’s Polling Units and Ward Collation Centres,urging the NBS to include the state of these facilities in its periodic reports and advocate for improvements through relevant constitutional bodies.
Earlier in his remarks, the Statistician General of the federation, Adeyemi Adeniran said the visit was part of effort to deepen collaboration with like Mind agencies in the discharge of it’s mandate.
The meeting, the first of its kind between the two agencies, marks a significant step toward deepening cooperation between INEC and the NBS.
