INEC Clarifies On Proposed Delineation Of Wards In Warri Federal Constituency
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked a media report claiming it has suspended the proposed delineation of wards in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Federal Constituency of Delta State.
In a statement issued in Abuja by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission said its attention was drawn to a report published by a national newspaper in which an INEC official was misquoted regarding the status of the delineation exercise.
The clarification follows public concern over the implementation of a Supreme Court judgment delivered on December 2, 2022, which ordered the delineation of the affected wards within the Warri Federal Constituency.
INEC emphasized that contrary to the report, the proposed delineation has not been suspended, and no final decision has been taken on the matter.
Olumekun further explained that the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is being conducted in all local government areas, including Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West.
The Commission urged all parties involved in the matter to remain calm and maintain peace, assuring that it remains committed to upholding the rule of law and carrying out its constitutional responsibilities without bias.
“INEC remains guided by judicial decisions and due process. The delineation exercise, as directed by the Supreme Court, is under active consideration,” the statement read.
