IGP Names DCP Anthony Okon Placid as New Force PRO

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has officially appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) for the Nigeria Police Force.

​DCP Placid, a veteran with nearly 30 years of experience across administration, intelligence, and international peacekeeping, succeeds the previous spokesperson in a move aimed at strengthening the Force’s strategic communication.

​Profile of the New FPRO

​Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, DCP Placid joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He was commissioned in August 1998 after training at the Police Academy in Kano.

​His academic background is extensive, featuring:

  • B.Sc. in Geography and Regional Planning (University of Uyo)
  • M.A. in Law and Diplomacy (University of Jos)
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (National Open University of Nigeria)

​A Career of Local and International Service

​DCP Placid is no stranger to public relations, having previously served as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Adamawa State and at the Police Staff College in Jos.

​His career is marked by significant international deployments, including:

  • African Union Mission (Sudan): Served as Chief of Training.
  • United Nations Mission (Darfur): Head of Training and Development.
  • African Union: Served as Election Security Adviser.

​Domestically, he has held command positions as a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Calabar, Bakassi, and Gembu, and served as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in both Akwa Ibom and Kogi States. Most recently, he was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni) following his completion of the Senior Executive Course 47 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

​Professional Affiliations

​The new FPRO is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). He is also a recognized trainer for both the Commonwealth on Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on International Humanitarian Law.

​DCP Placid is married with children. Outside of his professional duties, he is an avid sportsman with interests in football, basketball, and table tennis.
