High-level Engagement: Nigeria, Philippines Straighten Ties On Migration, Labour
The Nigeria Government and that of Philippines have agreed to strengthen its bilateral mutual relationship, particularly in the area of migration and labour.
This agreement was reached following a high-level engagement between the two countries in Abuja.
Speaking at the open session of the meeting between the Nigerian delegation and that of the Philippines, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar said Nigeria is keen to learn the visitors globally recognized approach on managing its overseas workers effectively.
He said Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s foreign policy agenda, anchored on Democracy, Demography, Development, and Diaspora will utilise every opportunity to enhance cooperation on labour, migration, protection of migrant workers and combating human trafficking.
The head of the Philippine delegation, the Secretary of Migrant Workers, Hans Leo Cacdac expressed his country’s mandate to deepen labour relations with Nigeria and partner countries where Overseas Filipino Workers are employed.
Members of the Philippine delegation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs include the Deputy Minister for International Cooperation, John Al Rasul, Assistant Secretary for Pre-Employment Concerns, Juleen Abito and Director for Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Human Trafficking, Giant Mendez and key staff of the Philippine Embassy in Abuja.
