Group Confirms FG’s N152bn Payment To Indigenous Contractors Amid Protest.
The Bloggers and Vloggers, Content Creators Association in Nigeria, BAVCCA, says the Federal Government has paid ₦152 billion to contractors with verified claims, amid protests over alleged unpaid entitlements.
National Secretary of the association, Tabuko Kennedy, disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja, stating that the payment was made on Wednesday after due verification.
Kennedy acknowledged the hardship faced by indigenous contractors due to delayed payments but explained that contract disbursements follow established approval processes to ensure transparency and safeguard public funds.
He also faulted attempts to personalise recent protests against the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, noting that she had been in office for less than one month when the incident occurred.
Kennedy noted that findings from an independent Panel of Enquiry set up by the body revealed that about 80 percent of verified obligations owed the contractors have been processed, while reconciliation continues on the remaining balances.
While affirming the right to peaceful protest, the group warned against blocking government facilities, urging contractors to embrace dialogue.
