Group Calls On INEC To Cancel Abia North Senatorial Poll For Alleged Irregularities

A civil society group has condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for upholding the February 25, elections of Abia North Senatorial District despite polls not holding in over 100 polling units across three Local Government Areas of the State at the February 25th Senatorial elections.

The Head, Coalition of Elections Observers to Abia North 2023 Election, Rasheed Shuaib in a news conference in Abuja said there were general reports of late arrival of INEC ad-hoc staff and electoral materials among other irregularities.

He explained that the affected polling units, has over 80,000 registered voters but INEC collation officers went ahead to announce the result of what should have been regarded as inconclusive.

He however, call on the election umpire to as a matter of urgency fix a date to conduct a rerun election or cancel the elections of the affected areas.

The Coalition further urges INEC to properly train its Presiding Officers who are going to handle BVAS, in order to have a hitch free March 18th rescheduled Governorship and States Assembly elections.
