Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has vowed to clamp down on criminal elements operating in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area and other parts of Kogi West Senatorial District, following the killing of retired military officer, Major Joe Ajayi.

Governor Ododo made this declaration on Wednesday during a condolence visit to the family of the late Major Ajayi at Odo-Ape community. He expressed deep sympathy with the bereaved family and the entire community over the tragic loss.

Describing the late officer as a true patriot who served Nigeria with honour and dedication, the Governor said his death at the hands of criminals was both heartbreaking and a wake-up call.

“We are here to sympathize with the family over the loss of our brother. I was personally touched when I heard about his death. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit remains. It would be a disservice to his memory if we fold our arms and allow criminals to take over our land,” he said.

Governor Ododo assured the people of Odo-Ape and the entire Kogi West Senatorial District that his administration will deploy all necessary resources to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice and peace is restored in the area.

He warned that the state government would no longer tolerate the unchecked influx of criminal elements masquerading as investors. He urged traditional rulers to exercise greater caution when allocating land.

While inspecting a local security outpost, the Governor reiterated that traditional leaders must verify the identities and intentions of individuals before granting land, emphasizing that
“Any individual or group found siding or abetting crime on any community will face the full wrath of the law”

Speaking on behalf of the family, the younger brother of the deceased, Mr. Titus Ajayi, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Ododo for his visit. He noted that the Governor’s presence was a strong source of comfort and a reassurance that justice would be served.
