The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to strengthening national security and road safety through enhanced data integration.

This followed a high level engagement with the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote.

In a statement issued by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC boss emphasised the urgent need for robust data harmonisation among government institutions to build a secure and intelligent nation where individuals can be properly and accurately identified.

He noted that credible identity management is central to effective law enforcement, crash reduction strategies and national development planning.

The Corps Marshal commended NIMC for what he described as remarkable strides in expanding Nigeria’s identity database and strengthening the National Identification Number (NIN) ecosystem.

He reiterated the Corps’ resolve to adopt and enforce the NIN as a mandatory requirement for vehicle registration and the acquisition of the National Driver’s Licence, describing the move as a critical step towards sanitising the motoring environment and enhancing traceability within the road transport sector.

Mohammed also sought the inclusion of FRSC in the Commission’s Annual Identity Forum, stressing that the Corps plays a frontline role in identity management through its driver licensing and vehicle registration processes.

According to him, closer collaboration between both agencies will accelerate innovation, improve data accuracy and enhance operational efficiency across government institutions.

In her remarks, the NIMC Director General pledged the Commission’s commitment to partner with FRSC on key data integration initiatives aimed at supporting crash reduction and strengthening national security.

She commended the Corps Marshal for the transformation and modernisation witnessed within the FRSC, noting that strategic synergy between the two institutions would deliver far reaching benefits for the country.

The meeting marks another milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to build a harmonised, technology driven identity architecture designed to strengthen governance, promote accountability and safeguard lives on Nigerian roads.
