The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has announced that starting next year, the Federal Government will deploy Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for the conduct of the school-based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Dr. Alausa, who disclosed this after monitoring a pilot CBT SSCE conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO) at Sascon International School, Maitama, Abuja, added that both private and public CBT centres would be used for the full-scale rollout.

He commended NECO for the seamless conduct of the pilot phase, affirming that future school-based SSCEs will take place at designated CBT centres rather than within schools.

Meanwhile, NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, expressed satisfaction with the examination’s conduct both nationwide and in participating international centres. He also confirmed the Council’s readiness to fully adopt the CBT model.

Some members of the National Assembly who also monitored the examination in some schools in the Abuja metropolis emphasized that the integrity of examinations must remain non-negotiable.

A total of 1,367,210 candidates registered for this year’s SSCE. Kano State recorded the highest number of candidates, with over 137,000 registrations, while Kebbi had the least, with just over 5,000.
