The Federal Government has announced plans to relocate all roaming animals from the streets of Abuja and other major cities across the country to designated grazing reserves.

The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Muktar Maiha, disclosed this at the 2025 Media Retreat held in Kaduna, stating that the directive would be enforced swiftly and without exception.

Maiha said the Ministry would collaborate closely with security agencies to ensure the success and sustainability of the initiative nationwide, stressing that Nigeria can no longer afford to lose lives to recurring farmer-herder conflicts.

Highlighting the achievements since the Ministry’s creation by President Bola Tinubu, Maiha noted that the number of states with livestock ministries has increased significantly.

He added that the establishment of the Ministry has opened up major opportunities for job creation, enhanced food security, and the stabilization of rural communities grappling with livestock-related challenges.
