The Federal Government has officially launched the Nigeria Agricultural Intelligence Platform (NAIP) a landmark four-year initiative aimed at transforming the nation’s agricultural sector through digital innovation, sustainable financing, and youth empowerment.

Unveiled at a high-level event in Abuja, the initiative was described by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari (represented by Mr. Yerima Ubah, Director of the Federal Department of Horticulture), as a bold step toward modernizing agriculture and positioning it as a core pillar of Nigeria’s economic growth and food security.

“Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy, and leveraging innovation is key to achieving food self-sufficiency,” Kyari said.

He noted that NAIP aligns with the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy (NATIP), which emphasizes research, technology deployment, and youth-led agripreneurship.

NAIP is designed to work seamlessly with existing government programs such as the National Agricultural Growth Scheme, fertilizer distribution, and climate-smart agriculture initiatives maximizing impact across the agricultural value chain.

Dr. Adamu Abubakar Dabban, Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), hailed NAIP as a groundbreaking project developed in collaboration with PIXELS Solutions Limited, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS).

“NAIP addresses long-standing challenges like reliance on rain-fed farming, poor access to quality inputs, and limited extension services,” Dr. Dabban stated.

Presenting the platform’s features, Dr. Aliyu Shuaibu Magudu, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at ARCN, explained that NAIP is built on a robust digital framework that integrates: Data analytics,Artificial intelligence and
Geospatial mapping.

This infrastructure supports real-time data collection from farms, weather stations, and markets, empowering farmers, policymakers, and researchers with actionable insights to boost productivity and climate resilience.

Key platform components include:

Interactive dashboards and farmer databases

AI-powered farm advisory services

E-extension modules and digital knowledge hubs

“Through NAIP, we are building a digital ecosystem where data drives decisions and technology bridges the gap between research and practice,” Dr. Magudu said.

Dr. Dabban praised the visionary leadership of Minister Kyari, whose unwavering support was instrumental in bringing NAIP to life.

The launch of NAIP signals a major milestone in Nigeria’s agricultural transformation agenda driven by collaboration between the government, private sector, and development partners.

By embracing technology, innovation, and youth leadership, NAIP is set to boost agricultural productivity, raise farmers’ incomes, and accelerate Nigeria’s journey toward food security and agribusiness excellence.
