FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday In Honour Of Late President Buhari.
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 15th July 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated that the declaration aligns with the seven days of national mourning earlier proclaimed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, following the passing of the former President.
According to the Minister, the holiday is a mark of respect for President Buhari’s devoted service to the nation, his contributions to democratic governance, and the legacy he left behind in national development.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” he said.
The Minister urged Nigerians to honour Buhari’s memory by fostering peace, unity, patriotism, and national cohesion—principles the late President strongly advocated.
In line with the mourning period, national flags are to continue flying at half-mast from Sunday, 13th July, through the seven-day observance.
The Federal Government extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late President, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
