The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has conducted a mock voter accreditation exercise across Abuja ahead of the February 21 Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.
The exercise, which took place in 289 polling units across the FCT, was monitored by the INEC Chairman, National Commissioners, the FCT Resident Electoral Officer, and other top officials of the commission.
Speaking with journalists after an assessment visit to selected polling units within and outside the Abuja metropolis, INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, said the exercise demonstrates the commission’s readiness to deliver a credible and technologically driven election.
Amupitan expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, describing it as a fully refined “game changer” in safeguarding electoral integrity.
Reacting to the low turnout recorded during the simulation, the INEC Chairman urged political parties to intensify voter mobilisation ahead of the polls.
