The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Mahmood Yakubu has urged civil society organisations accredited to cover the Edo state Governorship election to submit the list of their observers to the Commissions Portal before the 31st July deadline.
Prof Yakubu gave the indication at the third quarterly consultative meeting with Civil Society Organisations held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
The INEC Chairman who directed the CSO’s to upload the required information to the dedicated portal revealed that only 56 organisations have so far complied.
The INEC boss further used the opportunity to brief the CSOs on the commission preparedness for the Sept 21st Edo Governorship election.
Responding on behalf of the CSOs, the Executive Director, Centre for Credible Election commended INEC for its efforts and commitment aimed at ensuring the Edo and Ondo Governorship elections are free and fair.
The security situation in Edo state and the role of the CSOs during the conduct of the election are top on the agenda of the meeting.
