The Department of State Services DSS has apprehended a suspected gunrunner Abubakar Mohammed (aka Abu Direba)in a joint operation with the Nigerian Army and Police along the Abuja – Keffi Expressway in Keffi Local Government Area of Nassarawa State.
According to a signed statement by the Service Spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya made available to journalists, the joint operations was carried out in Nassarawa and Kogi states.
Afunanya said Four Hundred and Eighty-Six rounds of 7.62 x39mm calibre ammunition;Twenty-Two primed IEDs,the sum of Thirty-One Thousand, Five Hundred naira (N31,500) and One Volkswagen Golf vehicle with registration number- RBC202XA was seized during the operation.
Also,in another joint operation in the early hours of today, 22nd June, 2023, Afunanya stated that a team raided the hideout of Kabir Bala (aka Okwo), one time jail breaker and notorious gang leader in Ejule, Ofu LGA of Kogi State.
According to him, Okwo and his gang members engaged the troops in a gun duel during which he was neutralised while others fled the area.
He said Items recovered at the scene includes one AK47 rifle with three fully loaded magazines, six locally fabricated weapons, two phones and charms.

Meanwhile,the Service says it has uncovered plans to to attack worship and recreational centres during the Eid celebrations.
It however advised operators and patrons of public places including markets, malls to be watchful and report any suspicious movements and persons to the relevant security agencies.
Afunanya said the will continue to partner with sister agencies for necessary proactive drills to frustrate criminals and their activities.
