The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) has announced its upcoming Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference, scheduled to take place on May 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Chairman of DICAN, Idehai Frederick, unveiled the details of the high-level gathering, which aims to address the escalating challenges of modern geopolitical discourse.

The conference will run under the theme: “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade, and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media.”

The 2026 summit focuses specifically on Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), a critical component of modern information warfare.

As digital platforms become battlegrounds for state and non-state actors, DICAN seeks to establish a framework where “collaborative truth” serves as a pillar for international stability.

The conference is designed to bridge the gap between three essential pillars of global governance:

Diplomacy: Leveraging international relations to set norms and counter disinformation.

Intelligence: Identifying and neutralizing hybrid threats and psychological operations.

Media: Ensuring the dissemination of accurate, verified information to protect economic interests.

Strengthening Global Interests
Beyond security, the forum highlights the direct link between information integrity and economic prosperity.

DICAN Chairman Frederick emphasized that a secure information environment is prerequisite for robust Trade and Investment, as misinformation can destabilize markets and deter foreign capital.

By bringing together diplomats, security experts, media professionals,
administrators, regulators, Intelligence agencies, civil societies, policy institutions, academia and private sector actors, DICAN aims to foster a collaborative environment capable of safeguarding Nigeria’s interests and global security in an era of digital uncertainty.

The conference serves as a pivotal platform for stakeholders to refine strategies against the weaponization of information, ensuring that truth remains the bedrock of global diplomacy.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar who doubled as DICAN’s grand patron will deliver the keynote address, as the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot and other top dignitaries are scheduled to facilitate.

The maiden edition of DICAN International Conference held on 23rd July 2025 and was well attended as it had representation by over sixty Diplomat Missions, top government functionaries, CSOs, Academics and Students among other relevant stakeholders.
