Defence Minister Badaru Reaffirms Protection For Military Personnel On Lawful Duty
Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has assured that every soldier performing lawful duties will receive full protection from the Ministry, Military High Command and Structure.
That statement reenforced government’s commitment to protecting the dignity of its armed forces.
At a ministerial news conference at the National Defence College in Abuja, to kick off the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration the Minister took out time to addressed recent concerns following an altercation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Navy Lieutenant Ahmad Yerima over disputed land development in Abuja, allegedly belonging to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Gambo.
“At the Ministry, and indeed the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty.
“We are looking into this issue, and we assure that any officer on lawful duty will be protected highly.
“We will not allow anything to happen to him so far as he is doing his job, and he’s doing his job greatly well,” he said.
The Minister’s stance reinforces the principle that military personnel acting within the scope of their legitimate duties can expect full institutional support, regardless of the circumstances or parties involved.
It also sends a clear message about the sanctity of military operations and the protection of service members executing their responsibilities.
