Defence Holdings Targets Food Security In Plateau
The Plateau State Government has finalized plans to partner with Defence Holdings Company Limited (DHCL) to establish the Defence Farms and Agro-Allied Products (DFAAP) project in Wase Local Government Area.
The initiative, which involves the immediate handover of 30,000 hectares of land, aims to bolster national food security while simultaneously improving the security architecture of the region.
Strategic Collaboration for Food and Security
Representing Governor Caleb Mutfwang during a courtesy visit from the DHCL delegation, the Secretary to the State Government, Architect Samuel Jatau, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the project. Jatau noted that the massive agricultural intervention is expected to provide a dual benefit: increasing crop yield and creating a stable, monitored environment in Wase and its neighboring communities.
”The state government is ready for the immediate handover of the allocated land to ensure the project takes off seamlessly,” Jatau stated. He also commended Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, for his ongoing efforts to maintain national stability through such multi-dimensional initiatives.
Technical Assessment Underway
The Group Managing Director and CEO of DHCL, Air Vice Marshal Anthony Victor Ndace, arrived in Jos with a technical team to conduct a formal assessment of the site. Ndace emphasized that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s broader food security agenda.
”We are here to explore areas of partnership and assess the land provided by the state. This project is a testament to the synergy between the military and civilian government in addressing both hunger and instability,” said Air Vice Marshal Ndace.
Project Scope
During the visit, a technical presentation revealed the following details regarding the land use in Wase:
- Total Available Land: 98,000 hectares.
- Initial Phase Allocation: 30,000 hectares earmarked for DFAAP.
- Primary Focus: Large-scale farming and agro-allied processing.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a commitment from both parties to fast-track the project’s implementation for the benefit of Plateau State and the nation at large.
