COEASU Tasks FG On Teacher Education.

As the Minister of Education Prof Tahir Mamman commences step to initiate roadmap to address the challenges in the sector, the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) has advised him to give priority to more investment in teacher education.

COEASU President, Dr. Smart Olugbeko, stated this while speaking at a two-day workshop, organised by the Union in conjunction with the Committee of Provosts In Nigeria.

Olugbeko said the policy will help the system produce capable teachers that will entrencch quality teaching in the nations school system.

The trending controversy of job racketeering by government agencies including education institutions was top among issues lined up for discuss at the 2-day meeting.

Meanwhile, the Director, Colleges of Education Department, Federal Ministry of Education, Uchenna Uba, who represented the Minister of education, said the ministry is aware of the agitations of the union and is working towards addressing them.

Leadership Skills Development for Effective Industrial Relations in the College of Education System is the theme of the workshop targeted at equipping their members to have greater capacity to deal with issues of industrial concern and ensure peace on campuses.
