COAS Tasks Troops On Decisiveness, Human Rights In Shiroro, Rijau
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has lauded the troops of the 31 Artillery Brigade for their professionalism and steadfastness in managing security challenges within their Area of Responsibility.
General Shaibu gave the commendation on Thursday, January 8, 2026, during an operational visit to the brigade’s frontline positions in Minna.
In a statement released by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA, the COAS expressed satisfaction with the diligence of the personnel in maintaining regional stability. He specifically charged the troops to remain firm and decisive in neutralizing terrorist elements operating across Shiroro, Rijau, and other identified flashpoints.
Addressing the soldiers, the Army Chief emphasized the necessity of upholding fundamental human rights, urging troops to ensure their operations remain consistent with the provisions of the United Nations Charter.
Beyond operational tactics, General Shaibu focused heavily on personnel well-being. Acknowledging existing challenges regarding living conditions, he assured the troops that their welfare remains a top priority for the Army leadership.
”I have been adequately briefed on the challenges you face, particularly regarding accommodation and other critical facilities,” the COAS stated.
To address these concerns, General Shaibu directed the immediate construction and renovation of housing and essential facilities. The move is intended to boost the morale of the soldiers and their families while enhancing the overall operational effectiveness of the brigade.
