COAS Rallies 38 Regular Course For National Unity
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called on members of the 38 Regular Course Association of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to prioritize unity and inclusive leadership in their service to the nation.
The Army Chief gave the charge on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja while receiving the newly elected Executive Committee of the Association, led by its President, Rear Admiral Samuel Agada (rtd).
In a statement released by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, Lieutenant General Shaibu emphasized that cohesion within the veteran and serving ranks of the 38 Regular Course is vital for advancing the Association’s goals and supporting national development.
Addressing the current state of the force, the COAS disclosed strategic plans to bolster the Nigerian Army’s operational capacity. He revealed that efforts are underway to increase the Army’s personnel strength and establish additional depots across the country to more effectively address evolving security threats. He further noted that the leadership remains committed to deepening professionalism and enhancing the welfare of all troops.
Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the members to act as ambassadors of the Nigerian Army, leveraging their vast experience to collaborate with government ministries and relevant stakeholders. During the visit, he also paid tribute to the deceased members of the 38 Regular Course, praising their character and the sacrifices they made toward the stability of Nigeria.
Earlier, Rear Admiral Samuel Agada (rtd) expressed the Association’s gratitude for the Army’s ongoing support. He highlighted critical challenges facing retired members, specifically regarding healthcare needs, and appealed for assistance in strengthening the Association’s financial reserves. Rear Admiral Agada also advised both serving and retired personnel to prioritize early financial planning to ensure a stable transition into retirement.
