Cholera Outbreak: Scores Die In Nigeria, Sanitation Desks Activated In 36 States, FCT

The Federal Government has raised concerns over the alarming trend of cholera outbreak in the country. This is as report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC indicates over 33,000 suspected cases including 938 deaths across 22 states and the federal capital territory. Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the minister of Environment, Dr Muhammad Mahmood attributed the recent cholera outbreak on Nigerians attitude towards environmental sanitation and hygiene practices. He however outlined measures been deployed address the situation. Dr Mahmood further stated that the ministry alongside it’s partners will soon embark on a nationwide intervention response activities as related to sanitary inspection of foods, disinfection of contaminated water sources among Others. The ministry is also advancing support and cooperation of all Nigerians in Sustaining sensitization on cholera preventive and control measures .
