Anambra Polls: INEC Warns Against Voter Apathy As PVCs Collection Hits 98.8%
Ahead of Saturday, November 8 Anambra Governorship Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has cautioned against voter apathy, assuring that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible poll.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, stated this at a news conference in Abuja, where he briefed journalists on the Commission’s level of preparedness for the election.
Professor Amupitan urged all eligible voters in Anambra to come out en masse and exercise their civic responsibility without fear or favour, noting that the state’s voter register containing over 2.8 million eligible voters reflects the people’s strong voice in shaping their democratic future.

The INEC Chairman further revealed that following the completion of voter registration and a comprehensive database clean-up, the percentage of collected Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, has surged to 98.8 percent, a significant increase from the previous 63.9 percent benchmark.
The electoral umpire also reiterated the Commission’s zero-tolerance stance toward electoral malpractice, warning that any individual or group found attempting to subvert the Electoral Act before, during, or after the poll would face the full weight of the law.
