As preparations intensify for the upcoming Anambra governorship election and the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at boosting voter mobilisation and civic education.
The collaboration was formalised during a courtesy visit by the NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, to INEC headquarters in Abuja.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, described the partnership as timely and crucial, noting that as Nigeria’s election management body, INEC must work with all relevant stakeholders and national institutions to fulfill its mandate effectively.
As part of efforts to deepen the collaboration,Prof Yakubu revealed plans for NOA to play an active role in the soon-to-be restructured National Inter-Agency Committee on Voter Education and Publicity.
In his remarks, NOA Director-General Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu praised INEC for the opportunity to collaborate, emphasizing the need for joint efforts in addressing the widespread lack of awareness about the roles and responsibilities of both agencies within communities across Nigeria.
He further assured that NOA will intensify grassroots engagement to complement INEC’s outreach, with the goal of ensuring citizens are well-informed about their rights and responsibilities ahead of the elections.
