The people of Anambra State have gone to the polls to elect the next governor of the South-East state.

As early as 8:00 a.m., electoral materials began arriving at several polling units across the state. Unlike previous governorship elections, voter turnout in polling units visited by Channel Network Afrique (CNA) was encouraging, with many residents waiting anxiously for the commencement of the exercise.

The security situation was also commendable, as various security personnel were seen patrolling major roads and, in some instances, monitoring polling units to ensure order.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who cast his vote at the Ofiyi Square polling unit, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise so far.

Meanwhile, the candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Paul Chukwuma, and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, also commended the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring a credible process.

Across polling units visited by CNA crew, the enthusiasm of the electorate was evident, as many voters expressed determination to ensure that their votes count.

A total of 16 governorship candidates are contesting to occupy the Government House in Awka, popularly referred to as the Light House of Anambra State.

End.
