President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, for introducing progressive reforms that have improved living conditions in the nation’s capital.
The President gave the commendation during a Sallah homage by FCT residents at the Presidential Villa to mark the Eid el-Fitr celebrations.
A statement issued by Anthony Ogunleye, Director Press FCTA, indicates that President Tinubu highlighted Wike’s initiatives, including the establishment of an independent civil service commission and the revitalization of stalled projects, which have enhanced service delivery and infrastructure development in the FCT.
“When we started, he came up with innovative ideas to liberate the bureaucracy, ensuring merit-based promotions and efficient resource management,” Tinubu stated.
He recalled approving Wike’s request for financial autonomy, which led to the completion of abandoned projects such as the Vice President’s residence and the rehabilitation of schools and healthcare centers.
The President also emphasized the importance of national unity, urging Nigerians to embrace diversity as a strength.
“We are one family, living in different rooms but under the same roof,” he said, praising Wike for fostering inclusivity in governance.
Tinubu called on citizens to support the less privileged, particularly orphans and widows, in line with the lessons of Ramadan. “We must continue to share and care for one another to build a prosperous society.”
In his remarks, Wike congratulated the President and the Muslim community on the successful completion of Ramadan as he reaffirmed the FCT’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and thanked Tinubu for administrative reforms that have improved service delivery.
The Minister also expressed gratitude for the President’s support during the FCTA’s first-anniversary projects commissioning and hinted at more developmental strides in the coming year.
The delegation, comprising religious, traditional, and political leaders, presented a symbolic Sallah card to the President. The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Information Minister Mohammed Idris.
