Two members of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were arrested by troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The arrest occurred during a routine operation where troops discovered 13 pairs of military uniforms and high-voltage batteries—items often used by terrorist groups.
Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General, Markus Kangye disclosed this at the bi-weekly news conference in Abuja on strides recorded in diverse theatre of operations.
He said the suspects were caught during a routine operation receiving a waybill from a truck driver, a delivery that matched intelligence reports shared earlier.
Upon inspection, troops discovered that the consignment contained 13 pairs of military uniforms and high-voltage batteries items often used by terrorist groups to impersonate troops or facilitate attacks.
Major General Kangye said the discovery raised serious concerns about how far extremist groups have infiltrated civilian operations.
In a separate incident on the Jos–Sanga Road, troops intercepted a suspicious vehicle with bullet holes.
The Director, also said the passengers attempted to bribe soldiers with ₦13.7 million to avoid scrutiny which the troops refused the bribe, highlighting their discipline and integrity.
Military authorities confirmed that the money, weapons, ammunition, and vehicle have all been taken into custody for ongoing investigations.
This action he noted highlighted the discipline and integrity displayed by the troops despite the temptation to compromise.
He further noted that troops intensified campaigns against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Borno and Yobe states as operations led to the neutralizations of insurgents, arrest of 11 collaborators, and rescue of seven kidnapped victims.
Adding that over 200,000 liters of stolen crude seized, and multiple illegal refining sites shut down in Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta states as Operation UDO KA dismantled IPOB/ESN cells, rescued eight kidnapped persons.
He however, emphasized that all military actions adhere to constitutional and ethical guidelines as the troops remain committed to professionalism and protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty.
