Operators of the nation’s poultry industry have sent a save our soul message to the federal government seeking for urgent intervention in the sub sector. The private sector driven industry contributes over 25 percent of the Agricultural Gross Domestic Product of the economy and is believe to worth over 10 trillion naira. The industry has grown over the years to become a leading egg and broiler meat production in Africa. However, things are beginning to fall apart, no thanks to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The development is further worsened with the security situation which the operators of the industry insists is responsible for the present scarcity of soybean in the Nigerian market. They were however quick to add that all hope is not lost. The nation’s poultry industry is believed to presently engage over 20 million Nigerians.
