The National Human Rights Commission has expressed worry over the alarming trend of human rights violations in Nigeria.
Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu gave the indication at a stakeholders’ dialogue on the State of Human Rights in Nigeria, organised by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre PLAC in Abuja.
Ojukwu who noted that, the right to life of many Nigerians have been breached by persistent insecurity and other economic related challenges, reaffirmed efforts by the commission to protect, promote and enforce human rights in Nigeria.
On his part, the Chairman Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal matters, Sen. Mohammed Monguno, said that the National assembly would intensify its oversight functions to ensure the judicious utilization of funds allocated for human rights protection in Nigeria.
Some victims of human rights violations also share their experiences.
The meeting also provides an opportunity for government institutions, including law enforcement agencies to share their perspective on the application of human rights protection measures in the discharge of their duties.
