Ranching Can Enforce Peaceful Co- existence In Nigeria- Gov Ortom.

Recent survey and research indicates that ranching remains the panacea for lasting peaceful co-existence between farmers and herders in Nigeria. This was the opinion of Governor Samuel Ortom who was the Guest Speaker at the Press Week of the Correspondents Chapel, NUJ, FCT Council in Abuja. The Governor who spoke virtually on ‘Insecurity in Nigeria: Restoring Peace, Unity and Progress’ expressed concerns over the rising trend of Banditry, insurgency and other sundry crimes in the country. He said the challenges informed the establishment of the Benue State Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment law,enacted in 2017 in response to the desires of the people of the state. Meanwhile, the Chairman Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume in his remarks said until there is equity and justice, tackling insecurity in Nigeria remains a mirage. The occasion was part of activities to commemorate this year’s edition of the Nigeria Union of Journalist Abuja correspondence chapels week.
