Stakeholders in the livestock agricultural sector have lend their voice in calling on government at all levels to put in place quality policies that will create enabling environment for the sector to thrive.
The call which was made at the 12th Animal Science Association of Nigeria and Nigerian Institute of Animal Science joint annual meeting in Abuja indicates that the current low scale and almost subsistent production system cannot meet the animal protein need of the vast and growing population of Nigerians and for export.
The experts noted that the negative influence of climate change on animal agriculture, with more science, smart science, cutting edge science and technology as well as adequate funding could change the situation for good.
Minister of State, Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Abdullahi and the FCT Minister assured the stakeholders of their support to change the narrative.
Some stakeholders also spoke on ways to tackle various challenges facing the livestock industry.
The Theme for the 2023 ASAN – NIAS joint annual meeting is, Pathways To Addressing The Challenges of Climate Change In Animal Agriculture.
