The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a security guard in connection with the kidnapping and gruesome murder of a caregiver and a toddler at Clear Hope Foundation Academy, Dawaki, Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command disclosed that on July 23, 2025, it received a report on the sudden disappearance of Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, a 55-year-old nurse and caregiver at the school, along with a one-year, two-month-old toddler, Nanenter Asher Yese, who was under her care.
Later that same day, while the caregiver’s husband was at the police station, he received a ransom demand of ₦250 million through his wife’s mobile phone. The FCT Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately launched an investigation, employing digital forensic tools to track the suspects to Yelwa and Uke in Nasarawa State.
On July 29, operatives arrested David Moses, a security guard at the school, who was initially treated as a potential victim. However, during interrogation, he confessed to conspiring with his friend, Sunday Irimiya (currently at large), to carry out the crime.
According to the suspect’s confession, Mrs. Anaene was lured to the school’s bathroom, where she was attacked and strangled. David then abducted the toddler from a classroom and murdered him in the same manner. The bodies were placed in a sack, transported with a scavenger’s cart, and dumped in a canal.
The suspect led police to the site, where the remains were recovered.
The Police Command has expressed deep condolences to the families of Mrs. Anaene and Baby Nanenter, assuring the public of its commitment to ensuring justice is served.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families. While no words can ease the pain of this senseless loss, the Command remains resolute in its pursuit of justice,” the statement read.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect, Sunday Irimiya, as investigations continue.
