Over 100 Women Storm Jos For APC Chairman’s Mother’s Burial, Push For Gender Inclusion.

A high-powered delegation of over 100 women from various platforms under the auspices of the Women Leadership Network (WLN) attended the burial ceremony of the late Mrs. Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, in Jos, Plateau State.

The women’s presence was not only to honour the late matriarch but also to demonstrate unwavering solidarity and support for the wife of the APC Chairman and patron of the network, Prof. Matina Yilwatda.

Speaking with newsmen at the sidelines of the burial, the National Coordinator of the Women Leadership Network, Dr. Fauzia Ado-Buhari, emphasized the platform’s mission to unite women across political and professional divides to champion inclusivity and empowerment.

Further reinforcing the group’s agenda, Deborah Oriakwu, another key coordinator of the network, highlighted their confidence in the APC leadership, noting that the current Chairman represents a fresh vision for the party.

Meanwhile, Princess Nikky Onyeri, also a member of the delegation, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for showing solidarity with the bereaved family. She used the opportunity to spotlight the Women’s Inclusion Bill, which seeks to reserve legislative seats for women across federal and state levels.

The burial ceremony, which attracted prominent political and non state actors served as more than a tribute to a respected matriarch as it also became a platform to renew commitments toward gender equity and national cohesion.

The Women Leadership Network is a coalition of influential women’s groups including Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa, Association of Women Traditional Title Holders in Nigeria, League of Women Voters of Nigeria, and several others working toward a more inclusive and equitable political landscape in Nigeria.
