Ododo Flags Off Distribution Of 30 Transformers To Boost Rural Electrification in Kogi

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has launched the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers across 30 communities in a major move to enhance electricity supply and drive rural development across the state.

Speaking during the official flag-off ceremony of Phase One of the statewide rural electrification project at the Government House in Lokoja, Governor Ododo described the initiative as a significant step towards fulfilling his promise to empower rural communities through improved access to electricity.

“It is with great pride and a profound sense of duty that I flag off the first phase of the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers strategically distributed across the three senatorial districts of our beloved state,” the governor stated.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Ismaila Isah, the governor explained that the project was in response to community requests received via the Ministry of Rural and Energy Development. He emphasized that each request was treated with urgency, in line with his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of grassroots communities.

Governor Ododo further stressed that fairness and equity would guide the distribution process.

“In the spirit of fairness and equity, I have directed that these 30 transformers be distributed across the three senatorial districts. This ensures that the benefits of this crucial infrastructure project are felt simultaneously and equitably across our state,” he said.

Highlighting the broader implications of the project, Governor Ododo noted that the initiative goes beyond power supply.

“This is not just about electricity—it is about lighting lives, powering education, driving industry, supporting healthcare, and strengthening the security of our communities. Every part of Kogi State matters,” he declared.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to impactful projects, assuring that more communities would benefit from subsequent phases of the electrification program. The governor also urged residents to safeguard the transformers and ensure their effective use for the benefit of all.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engr. Abdulmutalib Mohammed, stated that the initiative aligns with the ministry’s mandate to enhance living standards in rural areas. He said the selection process for transformer distribution followed a rigorous technical assessment of community needs.

“Many communities will be covered in future phases. This initiative is not just about power it’s about improving daily life and stimulating local economies,” the commissioner said, while commending Governor Ododo for responding swiftly to the needs of underserved communities.
