The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has been decorated as a SERVICOM Champion by the SERVICOM National Office, Abuja.
According to a statement by Caroline Embu, Acting Director, Information and Public Relations, the decoration took place during the presentation of the SERVICOM Compliance Evaluation Report for the NYSC Directorate Headquarters and selected State Secretariat. The event was held at the National Directorate Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja, and was conducted by Mrs. Ngozi Akinbudewa, Head of Operations, SERVICOM National Office.
Speaking on behalf of the Head of the SERVICOM National Office, Mr. Gbenga Anthony Oshim, Akinbudewa noted that a team of SERVICOM officers evaluated the Scheme’s operations in 10 Orientation Camps, including the National Directorate Headquarters. She highlighted initiatives such as the NYSC PAD Bank, dedicated helplines for distressed Corps Members, and the enrolment of Corps Members in the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA) for free medical care as key achievements.
Oshim commended the NYSC for its efforts in youth empowerment, cultural integration, strategic partnerships, and the warm reception of Corps Members at Orientation Camps. He identified Edo, Kwara, Kano, Imo, Adamawa, Benue, and Ogun, among others, as states demonstrating commendable service delivery in line with SERVICOM standards.
In his response, Brigadier General Nafiu expressed gratitude to the SERVICOM team for their objective evaluation of the Scheme’s activities. He noted that the integration of Corps Members into various camp activities had made the Orientation exercise more inclusive and impactful.
The Director General reaffirmed the commitment of NYSC Management to advocate for the provision of modern, well-equipped Orientation Camps by State Governments to enhance training outcomes.
He also pledged to strengthen the Scheme’s collaboration with SERVICOM and appealed to well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organizations to support NYSC through corporate social responsibility initiatives.
“We promise to do even better, because NYSC is a highly professional organization,” General Nafiu said.
