Kogi State has joined the league of state government running more than one state university. This is as the National Universities Commission has given it nod for the take off of the confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, as the 50th state university in Nigeria. At an occasion to present the license of the institution to Governor Yahaya Bello, NUC Executive Secretary, Prof Abubakar Rasheed commended the state for turning out the highest number of candidates seeking for admission into the Nations Universities in Northern Nigeria. He expressed optimism that the confluence University of Science and Technology will focus specifically on courses that will accelerate the Nations transition to knowledge economy. On his part, Elated Governor Bello expressed gratitude to the NUC leadership for granting the state approval to operate a specialised university. He said the institution will help address the Nations unemployment challenges. Other states with more than one universities includes, Bayelsa, Ondo, Imo, Edo, Kano, Oyo and Ogun.
