NSCDC FCT: 402 Officers Get New Ranks, 112 Vandals, 50 Illegal Miners Arrested

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has decorated 402 newly promoted officers with their new ranks, following the recent promotion exercise approved by the Corps’ leadership.

The ceremony, held at the Command Headquarters was presided over by the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, who represented the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi.

In his keynote address, Dr. Odumosu congratulated the officers, stating that their elevation was a result of dedication, professionalism, and loyalty. He, however, reminded the personnel that the new ranks come with increased expectations from the public and the government.

”Promotion is not an entitlement; it is a call to higher responsibility, greater discipline, and enhanced service delivery,” Odumosu said. “To whom much is given, much is expected.”

Operational Successes and Arrests

Reviewing the Command’s performance, Dr. Odumosu revealed that the FCT Command made significant strides in internal security and infrastructure protection throughout 2025.

He disclosed that the Command arrested 112 vandals and at least 50 illegal miners during the previous year. The suspects were apprehended for various offenses, including the theft and destruction of:

  • Armored and fiber optic cables
  • Telecommunication installations and masts
  • Street lights, solar panels, and poles
  • Road crash barriers and billboards

The Commandant noted that these arrests were followed by successful prosecutions, which have served as a deterrent to economic saboteurs within the territory.

Agro-Rangers and Infrastructure Protection

Odumosu further highlighted the impact of the Agro-Rangers Unit, which he credited with mitigating farmer-herder conflicts and enhancing food security in the FCT’s rural and peri-urban communities.

He emphasized that the Command has strengthened its intelligence-led operations and proactive patrols to safeguard critical national assets and government facilities.

Commitment to Training

The FCT Commandant reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to capacity building, noting that personnel have undergone specialized training in intelligence gathering, election security, and disaster management. He urged the newly decorated officers to remain humble in their new ranks and act as role models to their subordinates.

The ceremony concluded with a pledge of continued loyalty to the Constitution and a commitment to ensuring a safer Federal Capital Territory for all residents.
