Nigeria, EU Set for 8th Ministerial Dialogue in Abuja

Nigeria and the European Union (EU) are set to convene the 8th Nigeria–EU Ministerial Dialogue on Monday, March 23, 2026, to deepen bilateral cooperation across trade, security, and climate action.

​The high-level talks will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tafawa Balewa House, Abuja. The Nigerian delegation will be led by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, while the EU delegation will be headed by Ms. Kaja Kallas, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.

​Ms. Kallas is expected to arrive in the nation’s capital on Sunday, March 22. Her itinerary includes a bilateral meeting with Ambassador Tuggar to review the current state of Nigeria–EU relations and a courtesy visit to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa.

​According to a statement signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the dialogue serves as a strategic platform to advance shared interests in several critical sectors, including:

  • Trade and Investment: Expanding economic ties and market access.
  • Security Cooperation: Addressing regional stability and counter-terrorism efforts.
  • Governance and Migration: Strengthening democratic institutions and managing migration flows.
  • Sustainable Development: Collaborative efforts on climate action and green energy.

​The Ministry emphasized that this eighth session underscores an “evolving partnership” built on mutual respect and multilateralism.

​Following the conclusion of the ministerial meeting, Ambassador Tuggar and Ms. Kallas will hold a joint press briefing to announce the outcomes of the dialogue and outline new areas of enhanced cooperation.
